Gestational Diabetes Services

At the Diabetes Clinic, we support people with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) through expert care from diabetes nurse educators and dietitians.

Appointments are available in person or via telehealth. Our team helps with blood glucose monitoring, healthy eating plans, physical activity guidance, medication management, emotional wellbeing, and education on future health risks.

Referrals to psychologists and exercise professionals are available if needed.

How we can help you manage your gestational diabetes

We can help with all aspects of gestational diabetes management and care, which include: 

  • help you to learn how to monitor and manage your blood glucose levels  
  • help you with a healthy eating plan for you and your baby and to help manage your blood glucose levels 
    • Including meal and snack ideas 
  • help you understand carbohydrate types and portions to ensure you are getting enough energy for you and you baby and to help manage your blood glucose levels 
  • help you understand the benefits of physical activity in pregnancy and the benefits for your blood glucose levels 
    • refer on to an exercise health professional if needed 
  • help you manage medication or insulin, if needed, for your GDM 
  • help you achieve healthy weight gain during your pregnancy 
  • emotional health support following and your GDM diagnosis  
    • refer on to a psychologist if needed 
  • Education on the future impact of GDM on your health and how to reduce your risk of GDM affecting your future health
